For those who really want to immerse themselves in nature
Full-day SUP trip in the Biesbosch
Some days, there’s nowhere else you need to be. No rushing from one appointment to the next. No traffic. Just your board, your paddle and a whole day of stand-up paddleboarding in the Biesbosch ahead of you.
For those who enjoy spending more time on the water, a full day of stand-up paddleboarding in the Biesbosch may be one of the best ways to explore this beautiful nature reserve.
Bring some food and drinks, stop whenever you feel like taking a break, and above all, don’t rush the trip.
Today, let the water set the pace.
From the marina towards Catharina Plaatjes
From Jachthaven van Oversteeg, paddle via Gat van den Hardenhoek towards the area around Catharina Plaatjes. From there, the map offers several options to continue south towards Gat van de Buisjes and the canoe creek above Noorder Jonge Deen.
As you leave the marina further behind, you’ll see the landscape gradually begin to change.
Paddling towards the Deeneplaat canoe area
If you have enough time, you can extend the trip further towards Deeneplaat.
On the water map, this area lies southwest of Gat van de Buisjes, among a network of creeks and larger stretches of water. It’s exactly the kind of landscape that makes the Biesbosch so special: waterways winding between green islands, with something new to discover around every bend.
That’s perfect for a full-day trip. You don’t have to keep checking how far you still have to go.
You’re already exactly where you want to be.
Lunch with a view of the water
A long SUP trip calls for a good break. Bring some lunch, plenty of water and, if needed, something warm. Along the way, find a suitable spot where you’re allowed to stop and give your arms and legs a well-earned rest.
Board on the bank. Feet in the grass.
A sandwich in hand.
A good day doesn’t need to be much more complicated than that.
No two days are the same
Wind and currents can have a big impact when you’re on a SUP. A route that feels relaxed one day can require considerably more effort the next. That’s why we see this full-day route as inspiration rather than a fixed itinerary.
Check with us before you set off. Based on the conditions that day, we can advise you which direction is best to take. The map also shows shallow water and restricted areas. Always keep an eye on these markings during your trip.
For experienced stand-up paddleboarders
Paddling all day naturally requires more stamina than a 1.5-hour trip. This route is therefore best suited to people who already have some stand-up paddleboarding experience and feel comfortable standing on their board for longer periods.
Not sure? Start with one of our shorter or medium-length SUP routes. The Biesbosch isn’t going anywhere.
Paddling back with your head full of Biesbosch memories
At the end of the afternoon, you paddle back towards Jachthaven van Oversteeg. Probably with tired arms, but above all with a much clearer head than when you set off.
And that’s exactly why you head out onto the water.
Frequently asked questions
What should I bring for a full day of stand-up paddleboarding?
For a full-day trip, it’s important to bring plenty of water, food, sunscreen and suitable clothing. You may also want to bring an extra layer and keep anything that needs to stay dry in a waterproof bag or container.
Keep your luggage compact: after all, everything you bring has to fit on your board.
Can I do a full-day SUP trip on my own?
You can, provided you have enough SUP experience, but for a longer trip it’s more enjoyable and safer to paddle with someone else. If you do go alone, make sure someone knows roughly which route you plan to take and when you expect to return.
How do I stay safe around other boats while stand-up paddleboarding?
Keep a close eye on your surroundings and make sure other waterway users can see you clearly. On shared waterways, keep a safe distance from other vessels and be extra alert at crossings and on wider waterways.
Where possible, choose the quieter waterways.
What should I do with my rubbish during a long SUP trip?
Take everything you bring with you back again. Keep packaging and other rubbish in a sealed bag during your trip and dispose of it afterwards.
Together, we can help keep the Biesbosch clean and preserve its natural beauty for the next visitor to enjoy.
